Last week, Sheriff Al Lamberti met with Cub Scout Pack 114 at the John Seaman Communications Center. As a prerequisite to their next badge, the Tiger Cubs needed to visit a communications center to observe how people use communication to help others. Sheriff Lamberti led the boys on a tour, allowing them to listen to dispatchers and see the different tools required for successful communication.

Hazardous Materials Technicians from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue mitigate a gasoline leak at the BP Products fuel depot at Port Everglades in the evening of Friday, March 7th. Over a dozen workers were evacuated when a 3/4-inch fuel pipe was broken off a 12-inch main by a crane working at the tank farm’s distribution point. A cargo ship was off-loading fuel when the pipe broke. The continuous leak was contained in the dike area around the tanks. The Port Everglades entrance on State Rd. 84 was shut down to traffic while fire crews handled the situation. Around 8:30 p.m. the State Rd. 84 entrance to the Port was re-opened to traffic. Two fuel company workers exposed to the gasoline when the pipe broke had to be decontaminated, but denied any injuries.
