Major Carol Maynard Honored at Garden Dedication

Major Carol Maynard Honored at Garden Dedication

On July 22, more than 100 people gathered at the BSO Child Protective Investigation Section (CPIS) building in Plantation to watch Sheriff Al Lamberti honor girl scouts from troops 67 and 1058 with the Girl Scout Silver Award. The girls achieved this honor by restoring the outside courtyard area at the CPIS building and donating toys and games for the children that CPIS serves. BSO Lt. Lisa Baker oversaw the project.

Following the awards, Sheriff Lamberti dedicated the newly renovated courtyard to BSO Major Carol Maynard, posthumously. Major Maynard was instrumental in creating CPIS when BSO took over abuse and neglect investigations from the Department of Children and Families. Major Maynard was a 23-year veteran of BSO. She passed away in December of last year.

The courtyard, complete with new benches, flowers, hedges, and more, will be used by CPIS personal to meet with families and children.

BSO and FHP Team Up to Solve Crime

Yesterday, BSO Commander Mike Calderin (center) of Broward Crime Stoppers, along with FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky (left), talked to the media about four unsolved fatal hit and run crashes from this year. Since January, a spike in hit-and-run accidents has caused FHP to appeal to the public for help in bringing justice to the victim’s families. Cmdr. Calderin urges the public to call Broward Crime Stoppers with any tips that might aide in FHP’s investigations.
