As thousands of people across America gathered to pray on May 1 during the 57th annual National Day of Prayer, Sheriff Al Lamberti welcomed local religious leaders to bow their heads with the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Lamberti, BSO Chaplain Rick Braswell and hundreds of BSO employees gathered under a tent at the Public Safety Building to pray with Rabbi Sheldon Harr of Temple Kol Ami Emanu-el, Pastor Eric Jones of Koinonia Worship Center, Pastor Johnie Butler of Christ the Rock Community Church, Pastor Chris Brown of Flamingo Road Church, Rev. George Puthusseril of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Dr. Robert Stanley of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Maulana Shafayat Mohamed of Darul Uloom Islamic Institute and Rabbi Zachery Betesh of Lions of Judea International.

Students from Parkway Middle School of the Arts sang the National Anthem and “God Bless America.” After the first rendition of “God Bless America,” Chaplain Braswell asked the students to sing it again, so the adults could join in.

Family members of Sgt. Chris Reyka, Dep. Philip Billings, Dep. Brian Tephford and Dep. Ryan Seguin, all BSO employees killed in the line of duty, attended the event.

This day we can all come together regardless of our different religious beliefs or ethnic backgrounds and pray for our nation and thank God for His many blessings,” Lamberti said.
