RIP CURRENTS KEEP RESCUERS BUSY

(Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL) – Broward Sheriff Fire Ocean Rescue swimmers Joel Armas, left, and Brian Haase, right, rescue “victim” Raymond Aguilera in the surf near the 4600 blk. of El Mar Drive on Wednesday to demonstrate how dangerous the current conditions have been. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue is the only fire department in South Florida that has an ocean rescue unit like this, designed to provide rescue of swimmers in the unguarded beach areas. On Sunday of the Labor Day weekend, firefighters were kept busy with a dozen rescues of swimmers in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Tragically, a couple visiting from out of state drowned in the hazardous conditions that day.
