Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Investigates Suspicious Fire

February 4, 2009

Broward Sheriff Firefighter/Paramedic Joe Dorsette uses a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots inside a burned out apartment late Tuesday afternoon. Neighbors reported seeing smoke around 3:00 p.m. and called 9-1-1. First arriving Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews located the fire in a fourth-floor apartment and were able to keep it from spreading to other units. Firefighters hauled hoses up four flights of stairs to attack the fire. Nobody was in the apartment when the fire apparently broke out in the bedroom. No injuries were reported and the Broward Sheriff Fire Marshal’s Bureau, BSO Aggravated Felonies unit and the State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause. Three neighboring apartments sustained smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross responded to assist the displaced residents with clothing and temporary shelter.
